Jersey City, N.J. (Aug. 30, 2017) --- Delaware State had season highs in shots and shots on goal but came up empty in a 1-0 loss at St. Peter’s today.

The Peacocks (1-1) scored the only goal of the match on a shot by Barbara Paiva from close range off a feed from Brooke Trotta in the 67th minute.

Delaware State had plenty of scoring chances in the contest, firing off 13 shots in the first period and nine in the second.

St. Peter’s goal keeper Victoria Scarratt had eight saves in the opening period. Scarrett turned away two shots by DSU’s Daijah Norris in the 23rd minute and posted saves on shots by Toni Washington and Samantha Wanzor a few minutes later.

The Hornets also had some tough luck when first period shots by Katrina Silva and Ashley Ventura hit the crossbar.

Delaware State controlled the play early in the second period, getting off six shots in the first 15-plus minutes of the frame.

The Hornets (0-5) managed just two shots following the St. Peter’s score in the second period.

Delaware State outshot the Peahens 22-8 in the contest. Scarratt was credited with 14 saves, while DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio had three.
