Statesboro, Ga. (Mar. 4, 2017) ---Delaware State committed five errors, resulting in five unearned runs allowed, in a 10-2 loss to Presbyterian in the Georgia Southern Eagles Classic today.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Jasmine Melgoza doubled to lead off the DSU first and scored on a one-out double by Desiree Moreno to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

Presbyterian answered with four runs in the top of the second off DSU starter Hannah Shields. Delaware State committed three errors in inning, leading to three of the runs charged as unearned.

The Blue Hose also scored unearned runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead.

The Hornets scored a run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Dani Velez and Moreno, who knocked in both DSU runs in the game and has a team-high seven RBI this season.

Presbyterian scored a run in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to pad its lead.

The Hornets had five hits in the game. Moreno and Melgoza collected two each.

Shields was tagged with the loss, although just one of the five runs she allowed was earned.

The Hornets will wrap up their play in the Georgia Southern tournament with two games on Sunday (Mar. 5), beginning with a contest against Marshall at 9:30 a.m. DSU is scheduled to face host Georgia Southern at 1:30 p.
