Gerard Wilcher
Defensive Coordinator/Def. Backs

Gerard Wilcher is in his first year on the Hornet football staff. He most recently served as Defensive Coordinator/Cornerbacks Coach at Division II Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. While at Seton Hill, Wilcher helped to develop several All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division selections, including cornerback Phillip Moreland, who also earned 2015 Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region I recognition.

Wilcher also helped lead Seton Hill to a victory over PSAC champion and nationally-ranked Slippery Rock during the 2015 season.

During the summer of 2015 Wilcher trained with the eventual Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos through the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship. 

Prior to his tenure at Seton Hill, Wilcher served 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh University, where he was the defensive backs coach as well as co-defensive coordinator in last two seasons. a job he also held there during the 2005 season.  As defensive coordinator, Wilcher helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a 26-7 record. 

While at Lehigh, Wilcher coached 24 All-Patriot League performers and his defenses collected a total of 126 interceptions.  Also at Lehigh, Wilcher recruited Will Rackley who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round 2011 in National Football Draft; and Lee Kurfis, who in 2013 set the school’s all-time single-season receiving record and was invited to the Dallas Cowboys training Camp.
 
Wilcher also served three years as defensive backs coach at Cornell.  In 2003, he helped guide the Big Red to the No. 1 Ivy League ranking in pass efficiency defense.

Prior to coaching at Cornell, Wilcher served four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts, where he helped lead the Minutemen to the 1998 Division I-AA National Championship, as well as another appearance in the national quarterfinals. While serving as wide receivers coach at UMass, Wilcher’s group set school records for catches and receiving yards in a single season. Wilcher also spent a season coaching the outside linebackers for the Minutemen.
 
In 2007, Wilcher was selected as one of 26 coaches across the country to participate in the NCAA Expert Coaches Academy in Miami, Fla., where he participated in workshops focusing on such topics as communication, academic success, and building a successful football program.  During the summer of 2008 Wilcher interned with the Philadelphia Eagles, working with the defensive backs.  He has also interned for the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals.
 
A four-year football letter winner at Morehouse College football team, Wilcher earned a bachelor’s in Business Administration from the school in 1992.
 
Wilcher and his wife Ayanna reside in Bethlehem, Pa., with their three children: son Xavier (20), a junior on the Delaware State football team; and daughters Jalen (18), a freshman on the Shippensburg University field hockey team; and Jehlani (14).
