Volleyball Coaching Staff
Whitney Johnson
Head Coach

Whitney Johnson, a former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standout, joined the Delaware State volleyball program as an assistant coach in May of 2015.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” said Johnson, who spent the previous two seasons at Bethune-Cookman as a graduate assistant. “I look forward to helping this program become better each year while I’m in this position.”

In addition to her time at B-CU, Johnson starred at UMES for three seasons (2007-09) after spending one year at Albany (2006).  Throughout her time in a Hawk uniform, she garnered First Team All-MEAC honors each season, along with earning MEAC Player of the Year (2007).  Johnson also went to finish her UMES career with 1,224 kills and 120 total blocks as an outside hitter.

“Whitney will bring a wealth of knowledge to the outsides and to our staff,” added Killingsworth, who also spent two seasons at Bethune-Cookman as an assistant before accepting the head DSU coaching position in 2013.   “I look forward to working with her as welcome her to the Hornet family.”

After her collegiate career, Johnson played professionally for three seasons in Gislaved, Sweden, as she led her squad in several statistical categories on her way to receiving multiple individual awards.

A native of Prince Frederick, Md., Johnson is the daughter of L’Tanya and Cheryl Johnson.  She also two sisters in Aricka and Angela, and one brother, Anthony.
