Delaware State continues its 2018-19 non-conference schedule with a home contest against the Cheyney (Pa.) Wolves. The Lady Hornets have been idle since an 82-44 loss to St. John’s of the Big East Conference on Nov. 29.
The score was 7-7 after a three-pointer by NaJai Pollard, but St. John’s stormed ahead to lead 23-12 after the first quarter.
Pollard had a standout performance in the contest, leading all players with 25 points and topping the Lady Hornets with seven rebounds. Pollard has scored 56 points in the last two games, including a season-high 31 vs. Delaware in DSU’s last home contest on Nov. 20.
The recent run has propelled NaJai to the top of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
scoring chart at 22.2 points per game. In addition, she’s second in the league in rebounding (9.6 pg) and seventh in field goal percentage (.454).
Lanayjha Ashe (jr.) is second on the Lady Hornets and 10th in the MEAC in scoring at 12.6 points per game. Ashe is also tied for fourth in the league with a .368 three-point shooting percentage.
As a team, Delaware State is tops in the MEAC with a .295 three-point percentage and sixth in three-pointers at 4.6 per game.
The Cheyney contest will be the Lady Hornets’ last home appearance until Jan. 7, 2019 against Coppin State.
The teams are meeting for the 10th time, but first in 10 years. Delaware State won the last meeting 80-50 on Nov. 14, 2008. Cheyney, however, holds a 5-4 lead in the
