Washington, D.C. (Apr. 16, 2018) --- The Delaware State women’s tennis team put up a tough fight, but came up short at Howard, falling to the Bison 4-3 in a MEAC North match on Monday.

The Hornets earned the doubles point by winning two contests, but dropped four of the six singles matches.


In the doubles competition, DSU’s Casandra Boltman and Sofia Rachi teamed up for a 6-1 victory in the No. 1 contest. The Hornet team of Elvira Galieva and Aayushi Chouhan captured the No. 3 doubles match by a 6-2 score.


Delaware State’s two singles wins were decided in straight sets. Anastasia Belkina was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 3, while Galieva posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 contest.

Howard needed three sets in two of its four singles wins.


In the No. 1 singles contest, Rachi dropped the first set to Howard’s Natalie Finch 6-3, but tied the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set.  Finch rebounded for a 6-2 win in the deciding third set.


Delaware State’s Alina Polyvana started strong in the No. 4 singles contest, winning the first set 6-4. However, Howard’s Kindha Nasef bounced back to take the second and third sets by 6-1 scores for the match win.
