Frederica, Del. (Mar. 11, 2018) ---Gardner Webb scored nine straight first period goals en route to a 16-3 victory over Delaware State in the Hornets’ 2018 women’s lacrosse home opener at DE Turf this afternoon.

Amanda Steinmuller had four goals and an assist, while teammates Talen Francis and Hailey Maranto tallied a goal and three assists each to lead the Bulldogs.

Jasmine West matched her career-high with two goals and Lauren Perry notched her third goal of the season to account for Delaware State’s scoring.

Gardner Webb scored three goals in the first five minutes, two by Lindsey Lippert, to open up a 3-0 lead.

Delaware State got on the board when Perry scored an unassisted goal at the 24:32 mark of the first period to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-1.

Gardner Webb responded with the nine-goal run, including three in a row by Steinmuller and Lippert’s third of the game, to open up a 12-1 advantage.

West scored back-to-back DSU goals in the second period, the second cutting the Bulldogs’ lead to 13-3 with 3:44 left to play.

The Hornets (0-2) return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 14) against Fresno State. Game time is 12:00 p.m. at DE Turf.
