Dover, Del. (Feb. 10, 2018) --- Delaware State won three Most Outstanding Performer awards, but it wasn’t enough in a 9-7 women’s equestrian loss to South Dakota State Saturday morning.
The teams were even in the Western competition, 4-4, but SDSU posted a 5-3 victory in the English rides to secure the win.
The highlight of the contest for the Hornets was MOP awards for English riders Rachel Dantley (sr.; Capital Heights, Md.) and Erin Gordon (so.; Highlands Ranch, Co.), along with Shelbe Jarrett (so.; New Alexandria, Pa.) in the Western competition.
Dantley was recognized after topping all riders in Fences with a score of 88 aboard “Snowy.”
Gordon, riding on “Myrna,” totaled 88 points to top all performers on the Flat. She earned a point for the Hornets with a score of 82 in Fences.
Jarrett was the best performer in the Reining competition, riding “AR” to a score of 70.5 to lead the Hornets to a 3-1 victory in the event.
Blayne Bell, Monica Ellis and Cheyenne Adams were also Western winners for the Hornets.
