The Lady Hornets (2-14; 1-2 MEAC) begin a two-game MEAC road trip with a visit to the defending conference champion Hampton Lady Pirates. Delaware State wrapped up a three-game home stand with a 66-48 loss to North Carolina A&T in its last outing this past Monday. The Lady Hornets started quickly in the game, opening up a 14-3 lead on a three-pointer by Gennell Addison with 4:08 left in the first quarter. The Aggies outscored DSU 13-1 to close out the quarter to lead 16-15 after 10 minutes. North Carolina A&T stretched its lead to 49-33 by the end of the third quarter. NaJai Pollard, in her third game back after missing the previous six due to a knee injury, led the Lady Hornets with 13 points in the NCA&T contest. Lanayjha Ashe was the only other Delaware State player in double figures with 12 points. Arion Jackson pulled down a season-high nine rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets. For the season, Pollard is No. 1 on the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game and in rebounding at 6.8 per contest. The 2017-18 MEAC Preseason Player –of -the-Year, Pollard has three double-doubles this season and 23 in her career. Ashe is second on the Lady Hornets in scoring (10.4 ppg) and tops in assists (52). She’s also second on the team with 13 three-point field goals.  

Hampton (4-9; 1-0 MEAC) has won its last two games, including a 70-65 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore in its MEAC opener last Saturday. Shayla Wright-Ponder came off the bench to lead the Lady Pirates with 17 points and eight rebounds in the game. K’lynn Willis added 13 points (8-10 FTs) to the win for HU. For the season Alina Starr is tops on the team and 11th in the MEAC in scoring at 11.9 points per game. Starr is also second in the conference in assists at 4.2 per game. Monnazjea Finney-Smith is Hampton’s leading rebounder at 7.1 per contest to rank eighth in the league. She’s also No. 1 in the MEAC in three–point field goals at 2.7 per game.

HORNETS vs. PIRATES Series History (Hampton leads 36-13)
This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Hampton won the lone contest last season 83-52 at Delaware State. The last time the teams met at Hampton, Delaware State came out on top 89-81 during the 2015-16 season, snapping a 15-game losing streak to the Lady Pirates.
