Dover, Del. (Apr. 7, 2013) --- Rochelle Sablay tied her career high with four runs batted in, while three other players drove in two runs each to lead Delaware State to a 12-4 MEAC softball win over Morgan State at the Hornets’ Nest this afternoon. The Hornets scored 12 unanswered runs after trailing 4-0 early in the game.

DSU swept the three-game series with its fifth straight win. The Hornets also improved to 4-2 in the MEAC.

Morgan State scored three runs in the top of the first inning and another in the second to grab a 4-0 lead.

The Hornets began their comeback with three runs in the third inning. Sablay singled in the Hornets’ first two runs and Ashley Bennett drew a bases loaded walk to cut the Bears’ lead to 4-3.

Delaware State tied the game at 4-4 when Sandy Hawthorne singled in Chloe Oro with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Hornets took the lead with four runs in the fifth. The big blow in the inning was a two-run triple by Sablay to give DSU an 8-4 lead.  Nicole Gazzolla singled in a run and Jess Madrid brought home a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Delaware State blew the game open with four runs in the sixth.  Oro singled in two sixth inning runs and Gazzolla had a run-scoring hit in the inning. The Hornets opened up a 12-4 lead when Madrid doubled in Oro with one out in the sixth. The game was then called due to the eight-run rule.

Oro, Gazzolla and Madrid drove in two runs each for the Hornets.  Gazzolla had a team-high three hits (3-for-5), while four others  had two hits for DSU.

The Hornets outscored Morgan State 30-11 in the three-game series.   

Delaware State softball
