Norfolk, Va. (Mar. 10, 2013) --- Delaware State University forward Tierra Hawkins (so.; Clinton, Md.) has been named to the 2012-13 All-MEAC Second Team, in voting by league head coaches and sports information representatives announced today.

Hawkins, a preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, ranked in the top eight in the MEAC in four major categories during the 2012-13 regular season.

She is fourth in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg), second in field goal percentage (.511; 201-for-393), eighth in rebounding (7.4 pg) and eighth in blocks.

Hawkins has reached double-figures in scoring in 25 of DSU's 29 games this season. She has scored 20-or-more in nine games, including a career-high 30 vs. Morgan State on Feb. 18.

In addition, she has led the Lady Hornets, or tied for team-high scoring honors 20 times this season.

Hawkins also leads the team with five double-doubles this season. She was the 2011-12 MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year and MEAC All-Rookie selection.  

Hampton's Keiara Avant was selected as the 2012-13 MEAC Player-of-the-Year. Eboni Ross of North Carolina A&T earned league Rookie-of-the-Year honors, while Hampton's Alyssa Bennett is the Defensive Player-of-the-Year.

Hawkins and Lady Hornets will take on Bethune-Cookman in the opening round of the 2013 MEAC Tournament on Tuesday (Mar. 12) at 11:00 a.m. at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. Delaware State is the tournament's No. 9 seed, while Bethune-Cookman is seeded eighth.

The Lady Hornets won the only meeting between the teams this season, 62-57, on Jan. 26 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The winner of the DSU/BCU contest will face defending champ and No. 1 seed Hampton in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
