Hampton, Va. (Feb. 11, 2013) --- The Delaware State women's basketball team faces a big challenge at defending MEAC champ and current league leader Hampton this evening. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at the HU Convocation Center. 

The Lady Hornets have dropped their last two games to fall to 8-13 overall and 5-3 in the MEAC. DSU is fifth in the current league standings, 1/2 game behind fourth place Florida A&M. Delaware State is coming off a 61-51 loss to Norfolk State on Saturday.

Hampton brings a nine-game win streak into the contest. The Pirates improved to 18-5 overall and 9-0 in the MEAC after a 68-59 victory over Coppin State in their last outing. Hampton has not lost since a 55-45 setback to Virginia Tech on Dec. 30, 2012.

Delaware State is trying to snap a nine-game losing streak to Hampton. The Lady Hornets have not defeated the Pirates since a 58-36 victory at DSU on Feb. 9, 2009. DSU has dropped five straight games at the Hampton Convocation Center since a 53-51 win on Feb. 28, 2005.

The Lady Hornets are led in scoring by forward Tierra Hawkins (so.), who is third in the MEAC at 17.7 points per game. Guard Tasia Bristow (jr.) is second on the team with a 12.1 point per-game average. Bristow has scored 39 points in the last two games, including a game-high 24 vs. Norfolk State in DSU's last outing.

Keara Avant averages 15.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game to lead the Pirates.
