Delaware State is home for the first time since Dec. 1 to face Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game. The Hornets have dropped their last two games to fall to 6-10 overall. DSU fell to 1-1 in the MEAC after a 58-53 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore in its last outing (Jan.19). The Hornets, playing their first game in two weeks, hit just 16 of 49 shots from the floor (32.7%), including 6-of-27 from three-point territory (22.2%). DSU cut a 15-point second half deficit to three with three-and-a-half minutes left to play, but UMES hit 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Marques Oliver led the Hornets with a season-high 15 points and six rebounds.

Howard (4-16; 1-5 MEAC) brings a four-game losing streak into the contest. The Bison are coming off a 71-36 MEAC loss to North Carolina Central on Monday. The Bison have totaled 73 points in the last two games, and are averaging less than 43 points per-game during their four-game slide.

DSU VS. HOWARD SERIES HISTORY (HOWARD leads 50-46 ... since 1967-68 season)
This is the first of two scheduled meetings this season. The Hornets and Bison split two games last season, with each winning on its home court. Howard won the first meeting of the 2011-12 season  72-65 on Dec. 6 in Washington, D.C. The Hornets trailed by as many as 22 in the second half, but could get no closer than the final score the rest of the way. Casey Walker and Kendall Gray led DSU with 17 points each. Howard's Prince Okoroh (10-12 FGs) had a game high 21 points, while teammate Dadrian Collins added 18. Delaware State avenged the loss with a 63-46 win in last season's second meeting. Walker led the Hornets with a game-high 21 points. He was 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point territory. Marques Oliver added 16 points and a school record-tying eight blocks in the contest. Okoroh and Alphonso Leary led Howard with 13 points each. The Bison have lost 14 straight at DSU since a 74-73 win during the 1994-95 season. The Hornets and Bison are scheduled to meet again on March 2 at Howard.
