Coral Gables, Fla. (Dec. 29, 2012) --- The Delaware State University women's basketball team lost its bid for a consolation game victory in the Miami (Fla.) Holiday Tournament today. Jaclyn Babe scored a game-high 23 points to lead Central Connecticut to a 76-54 win over the Lady Hornets in the tournament consolation at the Bank United Center. Babe was 10-for-14 from the field, including a three-pointer, and 2-of-2 at the free throw line.

Delaware State was led by Tierra Hawkins with 18 points. Hawkins has reached double-figures in scoring in each of the last four contests and in 10 of DSU's 12 games this season. She leads the Lady Hornets in scoring at 17.5 points per-game.

Deanna Harmon added 13 points on perfect shooting for the Lady Hornets. Harmon was 6-for-6 from the field, including a three-point field goal. Keyanna Tate tallied nine points (4-6 FGs), while Kianna D'Oliveira contributed seven points, a team-high six rebounds and two blocks in the contest.

The game was pretty even for the first 10 minutes, with neither team leading by more than four points.

Delaware State held its biggest lead, 14-10, when Harmon capped off a 7-0 run with a lay-up at 11:46 of the first half.

The Lady Hornets led 16-14 when Central Connecticut began to take control. The Blue Devils scored 10 straight points, and opened up a 24-16 lead on a basket by Lauren Arbogast with 7:37 remaining in the half.

Delaware State trailed by nine with 1:05 to go in the first half, but scored the last four points of the half to pull to within 36-31 at the break.

Central Connecticut outscored the Lady Hornets 11-4 in the early stages of the second half, and opened up a 47-35 lead on a jumper by Jaleen Thomas with 16:19 left to play.

Tate hit a lay-up with 7:38 left to cut the Blue Devils' lead to 54-45. Central Connecticut responded with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take control for good.

The Lady Hornets were 23-for-54 from the field (42.6%), including 1-of-6 from three-point territory in the contest.

Central Connecticut was 29-for-58 from the floor (50.0%). The Blue Devils were 3-of-9 on three-point shots and 15-for-16 at the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets were outrebounded 42-26 in the contest.

 Delaware State begins a two-game swing through Houston, Tex., with a visit to Houston Baptist next Saturday (Jan. 5). The trip concludes with a contest at the University of Houston on Jan. 6.
