Newark, N.J. (Dec. 8, 2012) ---- The Delaware State women's basketball team was locked in a two-point game against NJIT with less than five minutes to play, but the Highlanders scored 14 of the last 15 points in a 55-42 win over the Lady Hornets at the Fleisher Center today.

DSU trailed 41-39 after a lay up by Tasia Bristow with 4:38 left in the game.

Uju Nwankwo led NJIT with a game-high 19 points.She also led all players with 10 rebounds.  Rayven Johnson added 16 points for the Highlanders.

Bristow came off the bench to lead the Lady Hornets with 10.  

Delaware State started strong, hitting its first two shots to lead 4-0 in the opening minute of the game. NJIT answered by scoring the next six points, and opened up a 6-4 lead on a follow-up basket by Nwankwo with 16:52 left in the half.

The Lady Hornets led for the last time in the first half, 8-7, on a lay-up by Tierra Hawkins with 11:52 left in the opening period.

Delaware State then went on a nearly seven minute dry spell, allowing NJIT to pull ahead.

The Lady Hornets failed to connect on eight shots from the floor and two free throws, while committing four turnovers during the span. Meanwhile, NJIT ran off 11 straight points to open up an 18-8 lead.

Alexis Thornton broke the drought for the Lady Hornets three-pointer to cut the Highlanders' lead to 18-11 with 4:55 remaining.

Delaware State trailed 23-13 before scoring the last five points of the half to pull to within 23-18 at the break.

The Lady Hornets return to action next Saturday (Dec. 15) at home against Albany. The game time has been changed to 7:30 p.m. due the University's Winter Commencement in Memorial Hall earlier in the day.
