DOVER (March 21, 2009) ? Starting pitchers Brittney Ruark and Megan Lambertz combined to throw 12 innings, allowing only three hits and no runs in route to a doubleheader sweep of the Vermont Catamounts today, at the Hornets Nest. DSU took the first game 1-0 and the second game 8-0 in five innings. With the sweep, the Hornets improve to 10-8 on the season.
The first game was a pitchers duel until the third inning, when Rachel Carroll drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Courtney Taylor.
Ruark took care of the rest, allowing only one hit and striking out five for team-leading sixth complete-game of the season.
In game two, the Hornet bats came alive tallying 11 hits. Lambertz had two of those hits including her second homerun of the season in the fifth inning. She also pitched her best game of the season allowing only two hits and striking out three. The Las Vegas native now has 16 RBI in 18 games to the lead the team offensively.
Bre Parr and JoJo Shields each drove in two runs in the effort.
DSU will host Vermont again tomorrow for a single game starting at noon.
