Carey, N.C. (February 14, 2009) ? Senior Megan Lambertz drove in three runs on three hits while Brittney Ruark tossed four scoreless innings to give DSU the 13-3 win over the North Carolina Central Eagles. The Hornets improve to 3-0 on the season while NCCU falls to 0-7.
DSU started off the game with a bang as they scored three runs on two hits in the first inning. Lambertz tripled to lead off the game and is now leading the Hornets with a .700 batting average to start the season. Freshman Casey Beighly drove her in with a single to give the DSU the early 1-0 lead.
The defending MEAC Champions would strike again in the four inning as they drove in four runs on three hits to take a 7-0 lead. Freshman Rachel Carroll doubled to drive in Andrea Waters who tripled earlier in the inning. Freshman Leslie Pleasanton then singled to drive in two runs.
The Eagles would score all three of their runs off of Waters in relief in the fifth inning. Sophia Blue and Michelle Ishida both drove in a run a piece in the inning but Waters would eventually close the game out for her first save of the season.
The Hornets are off until Saturday, February 28, when they travel to the UNC-Wilmington Tournament. They will first play Liberty on that Saturday. Game time is set for 12:15 p.m. They will then play host UNC-Wilmington later in the day at 2:30 p.m.
