WILLIAM AND MARY TOO MUCH FOR THE LADY HORNETS

Dover, Del (Nov. 30) --- The Delaware State 'Lady Hornets' fall to William and Mary 'Tribe' 73-52.  This marks the third straight loss for DSU, and they fall below .500 as their record now stands at 3-4.

Delaware State guard Lyric Turner led all scorers with a career high 26 points, shooting 10-of-20 from the field including 6-of-13 on three-pointers.

Turner buried a three from the right corner to start the game.

A few possessions later Turner found the bottom of the net with a three from the left corner, giving the Lady Hornets a 6-4 lead.

William and Mary responded with scoring eight unanswered points.

Sharajah Collins halted the run with a mid-range jumper from the left wing. On the next possession Turner nailed her third three of the game, this time from the top of the three-point arc. Her three-pointer reduced the William and Mary lead to just one point at 12-11 with 5:01 remaining in the quarter.

The tribe responded with a 6-0 run.

Turner hit a mid-range jumper to cut the deficit to 18-13 before the first quarter ended.

After a William and Mary three-pointer to start the second, Collins maneuvered around multiple defenders before finishing with a runner in the lane, reducing the Tribe lead to 21-15.

Later in the second Miajah Bullock drove right, reversed pivot back to the middle of the lane and knocked down a jumper from close range. Lady Hornets stilled trailed by six with 7:10 remaining in the half.

After a basket by the Tribe, Collins on an isolation play crossed over from right to left to shake by her defender and finish in the lane, cutting the deficit back to six.

William and Mary responded by ending the quarter on a 13-6 run. Their run gave them a 40-27 lead into halftime.

The Tribe scored six straight points, to start the third quarter, leading to an early timeout by Delaware State.

After the timeout DSU guard Janasia Law scored a high arching floater to get the Lady Hornets on the board for the quarter.  After a basket by W&M Turner buried another three-pointer this time from the right wing. Following another W&M basket, Turner swished in her fifth three-pointer of the game. On the ensuing possession DSU secured a defensive rebound; Ashe receive the outlet pass, sped up the floor and dished the ball to Collins who made the layup bringing the deficit to just 12, at 52-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hornets continued their momentum briefly in the fourth quarter.  DSU guard Naomi Shorts stole the initial inbounds pass, later in the same possession Collins drove towards the middle of the lane and hit a pull-up jumper. On the next possession Shorts stole another pass and raced up the court before being fouled on her layup attempt. The New Jersey native hit both of her free throws to cut the deficit down to just eight points (52-44) with 9:08 remaining in the game.

That is as close as the Lady Hornets would get. The Tribe outscored DSU 21-8 the rest of the way.

William and Mary shot a scintillating 30-of-53 (56.6%) from the field. They made just 1-of-10 on three-point attempts (10.0%).

Delaware State shot just 21-of-57 (36.8%) from the field and 6-of-20 (30.0%) from beyond-the-arc.

The Lady Hornets have two more home games. They host Cleveland State on December 2nd (5:00 pm) and St. Peter's College on December 7th (2:00 pm) before going on a three game road trip starting with Longwood university on December 15th.
