Dover, Del. (Nov. 18, 2019) --- The Delaware State University Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed a new group of inductees during its annual ceremony on Nov. 15 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center on the DSU campus.
The 2019 Hall of Fame class individuals:
Andrea (Waters) Canfield – softball, 2008-2011
Nigel Dunn – football, 1980-1983
Donte Holmes – men's track and field, 2008-2012
Shervon Hunter-Johnson – women's basketball, 1988-1992
Tracy Martin – Hornet supporter
Andre Matthews – men's basketball, 1999-2003
Joe Purzycki – head football coach 1981-1984
John Ridgeway – Hornet supporter
Preston Steward – football, 1988-1991
Kenneth Wright – football, 1972-1975
The 2019 team inductee was the 2008-2009 MEAC Champion / NCAA Tournament Final 4 DSU women's bowling squad.
The Department of Athletic also began a new tradition of not only honoring the Delaware State Athletes of the Year during the Hall of Fame Ceremony, but also announced that from this year forward the Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award would be named after former DSC President Luna Mishoe and his daughter, current DSU President Wilma Mishoe.
Garrett Lawson, Hornet baseball pitcher, received the Luna I. Mishoe Male Athlete of the Year Award for 2018-2019.
NaJai Pollard, Lady Hornet basketball star received with the Wilma Mishoe Female Athlete of the Year Award for 2018-2019.
