HORNETS POST 2ND PLACE FINISH IN MEAC MEET

Glen Burnie, Md. (Nov. 10, 2019) --- The Delaware State bowling team had an impressive showing in the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference meet of the season. The Hornets finished second among the 11 conference teams after falling to Maryland-Eastern Shore in the first place bracket play match this afternoon.

Delaware State posted a 7-3 overall record and was second to MDES with an average of 194.7 in 55 games (10,708 total pinfall).

Maryland-Eastern Shore, the defending conference champ, was 11-0 overall in the three-day competition.

In today's best-of-seven first place contest, Delaware State won the first two games, 210-175 & 169-168, before dropping the last four.

The Hornets advanced to the first place match with a 4-2 victory over North Carolina A&T earlier today. DSU led 3-0 before the Aggies stayed alive with victories in the next two games. The Hornets posted a 243-227 victory in game six to advance.

Delaware State was 4-0 after the opening day of Baker contests. The Hornets were 2-3 in traditional matches to hold a 6-3 record after day two.

Individually, DSU's Alexis Neuer was third among 68 competitors with a total pinfall of 1,043 and five game average of 208.6. Neuer topped the 200-mark in three games, including a high of 257, second-best among all scores.

Delaware State's Stefanny Toala was ninth in the field with a total pinfall of 965 for a five-game average of 193.0 Toala also recorded three 200-yard games, with a high of 211.

There will be a second conference round-up hosted, by Florida A&M, on Feb. 21-23 in Pensacola, Fla.

The two meets will determine which eight teams will compete in the 2020 MEAC Bowling Championship March 20-22, 2020 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va.

The Delaware State bowling team is back in action next weekend at the Stallings Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.
