DSU WOMEN 9TH IN MEAC XC CHAMPIONSHIP

Smyrna, Del. (Oct. 26, 2019) --- The Delaware State women's cross country team was ninth in the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship at the DSU Outreach and Research Center Course on Saturday.

The Hornets had a combined team score of 235 points.

Norfolk State won its first MEAC title since 2009 and second overall with a score of 47 points in the 10-team race.

The Spartans had four of the top 13 finishers, including individual champion Martha Bissah, who topped the field with a time of 17-minutes-44.38 seconds on the 5K course.

Sierra Cruz was the first Delaware State runner to cross the finish line, placing 42nd among the 66 runners with a time of 22:54.99.   

DSU's Sylvia Okafor was 44th in the race with a time of 23:10.23, while teammate Lakendra Harpe was 52nd at 24:26.47.
