Dover, Del. (Oct. 25, 2019) --- Jordan Vang (fr.) led all players with 14 kills, while Freja Gortz (fr.) tallied 36 assists and 13 digs to lead Delaware State to a 3-0 MEAC victory over Bethune-Cookman Friday evening. The scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-23.

The Hornets won for the first time in four matches to improve to 9-15 overall and 4-5 in the MEAC. The Wildcats dropped their fourth straight contest to fall to 6-18 and 3-6.

Vang's 14 kills came of 30 attempts (.333 hitting percentage). She also led all players with three service aces and also contributed eight digs to the win.

The 13 digs marked a career-high for Gortz, who started her fourth straight match.

Delaware State's Jasmal Cruz led all players with 18 digs.

The Hornets posted a .229 hitting percentage in the match, tallying 43 kills and 19 errors on 105 attacks. Bethune-Cookman had 20 kills and 14 errors on 95 attempts for a .063 hitting percentage.

In the first set, the Wildcats led 7-3 in the early going. The Hornets answered with a 12-4 rally, and opened up a 15-11 lead on a kill by Simone Newell.

Vang led DSU with five kills in the opening set.

The Hornets scored the first 13 points in set two and never looked back. Sydney Lewis and Anadys Valentin had two kills each, while Vang recorded a kill and ace during the DSU rally.

DSU was also aided by seven Bethune-Cookman errors in the second set.

In the third set, Delaware State trailed by as many as seven points before storming back. BCU opened up its biggest lead, 14-7, on a service by Faith Landreneaux.

The Hornets responded with a 13-5 rally, and pulled ahead 20-19 on a kill by Vang off a feed from Gortz.

Delaware State scored three of the last four points to close out the win.

The Hornets return to action with a Sunday (Oct. 27) match against Florida A&M. The contest begins at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
