Orangeburg, S.C. (Oct. 14, 2019) --- Jordan Vang and Anadys Valentin tallied 11 kills each, and Jelena Dukic recorded 30 assists to lead Delaware State to a 3-0 win over South Carolina State in a MEAC match Monday evening. The scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-23.
The Hornets won their second straight MEAC match to improve to 8-12 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs fell to 0-19 and 0-6.
Dukic also tied for match-high honors with seven digs and three service aces. Sydney Armbrister added seven kills in 12 attacks (.417) for DSU.
In the first set, the Hornets posted a .375 attack percentage, tallying 12 kills on 24 attempts. DSU trailed 14-13 before scoring 12 of the final 16 points to secure the win in the opening set.
There were six ties in the second set, the last time at 20-20. The Hornets pulled ahead 21-20 on a kill by Vang and scored four of the last five points to open up a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Delaware State trailed 21-18 before a late rally. The Hornets scored six of the next seven points and opened up a 24-22 lead on a South Carolina State error. DSU clinched the set and match on another Bulldog error.
The Hornets tallied 37 kills and 16 errors on 88 attacks for a .239 hitting percentage for the match. SC State had a .131 attack percentage in the contest, recording 27 kills and 16 errors on 84 attempts.
DSU held a 33-24 advantage in digs and 10-6 edge in service aces.
The Hornets will play their third match in three nights on Tuesday (Oct. 5) at Maryland-Eastern Shore in a MEAC contest.
Delaware State will also visit North Carolina Central (Oct. 18) and North Carolina A&T (Oct. 20) before returning home to face Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 25.
