Dover, Del. (Oct. 13, 2019) --- Delaware State recorded a season-low hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss to the Citadel in Charleston, S.C., Sunday evening.  The scores were 25-18, 25-11 and 25-10.

The Hornets tallied 17 kills and 21 errors in 86 attacks for a -.047 hitting percentage in the match. DSU entered the contest with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference best .200 attack percentage.  

The Citadel snapped a six-match losing streak to improve to 5-13 this season. The Bulldogs posted a .325 attack percentage in the match, tallying 36 kills and 10 errors on 80 attempts.

The Citadel’s Makaya Middleton and Sharlissa De Jesus led all players with 10 kills each, while Megan Fuhr dished out 32 assists and Melanie King had 12 digs, also match highs, for the Bulldogs.

Sydney Lewis (fr.) was tops on the Hornets with four kills. Jelena Dukic had a team high 15 assists, while Taino Leao came off the bench to record seven digs to lead the Hornets.

In the first set, The Citadel opened up a 13-3 lead and was never seriously threatened.

The Bulldogs posted a .550 attack percentage in the second set, tallying 13 kills and just two errors in 20 attempts.

The Citadel had 11 kills and just one error, while the Hornets were plagued by nine miscues in set three.

Delaware State remains in the Palmetto State for its next match on Monday (Oct. 14) against South Carolina State. The MEAC contest is set for 6:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, S.C.
