Dover, Del. (Oct. 11, 2019) --- Zoe Kirsch and Sydney Wicklund earned Most Outstanding Performer awards to lead the 10th ranked Delaware State equestrian team to a 13-7 victory over South Dakota State in Martin, Tenn., today.

Earlier today, the Hornets fell to Tennessee Martin, 11-9.

In the South Dakota State contest, the Hornets were 7-3 winners in the Jumping Seat competition, posting a 4-1 victory in Fences and holding a 3-2 advantage on the Flat.

Wicklund was the top performer in Fences, earning a point for the Hornets with a score of 85 aboard “Castello.”

Erin Gordon (83), Gabrielle Fournier (76) and Kirsch (69) also turned in winning performances for DSU in Fences.

Kirsch posted a score of 78 on “Honor” to top the field on the Flat.

Gordon (76) and Wicklund (66) also earned points for the Hornets on the Flat.

Delaware State also won the Western competition vs. South Dakota State, 6-4.

The Hornets won four of the five Horsemanship rides, highlighted by Shelbe Jarrett’s score of 74.5 aboard “Winnie” to tie for tops in the competition.

Blayne Bell (72.5), Kelsey McArthur (72.5) and Samantha Elliott (71.5) also collected Horsemanship points for DSU. Casey Johnson had a stellar Horsemanship ride for the Hornets with 74 points, but fell short to South Dakota State’s Jordan Gates , who earned MOP honors with a score of 74.5.

Abbey Craver (70) and Anastasia Brugger (66) were winners for Delaware State in Reining.

In the Tennessee Martin contest, the Hornets were 7-3 winners in the Jumping Seat competition, but were handled 8-2 in the Western rides.

Kirsch, Fournier and Gordon were two-time winners vs. Tenn. Martin, each posting victories in Fences and Flat. Gordon tallied a team-best 83 points in the competition.

Kirsch posted the Hornets’ top score on the Flat with 76 points.

Casey Johnson was Delaware State’s lone winner in Horsemanship with a total of 70 aboard “Shadow.”

The Hornets will close out the 2019 portion of their schedule with home competitions against Sweet Briar and Lynchburg College on Oct. 25 at the Dovington Training Center in Felton, Del.
