Easton, Pa. (Sep. 14, 2019) --- The Delaware State volleyball team split two matches on the final day of the Lafayette Tournament on Saturday to post a 2-1 record in the two-day tourney.
The Hornets began the day with a 3-0 loss to host Lafayette before closing out the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Merrimack.
In the Merrimack contest, Anadys Valentin (fr.) had a match-high 11 kills and two just two errors on 26 attacks, while Ryanne Burnett (fr.) tallied nine and kills and one errors on 25 attempts (.320).
Jordan Vang (fr.) had a .538 attack percentage in the match, collecting eight kills and one error on 13 attempts.
Jelena Dukic led all players with 32 assists, while Jasmal Cruz (fr.) recorded 11 digs and Nia Scott (so.) 10.
The Hornets won the first set 25-18 and opened up a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 victory in set two. DSU sealed the win with a dominating 25-7 victory in the third set. Delaware State had 12 kills on 11 assists in the set.
In the loss to Lafayette, Delaware State was plagued by 22 errors, including 10 during a 25-10 loss in the opening set. The Hornets were edged out 27-25 in the second set fell 25-14 in the set three.
DSU (3-8) returns to action on Tue. (Sep. 17) at American. The match is set for 6:00 pm in Washington, D.C.
