DSU REINING TEAM MAKES HISTORY AT NATIONAL EQUESTRIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Delaware State's Equestrian program has again raised its national profile, thanks to the historic performance of its Reining team at the National Collegiate Equestrian Event Championships. The Hornet Reiners became the first team in program history to reach the semifinals of the NCEA championships.

Delaware State, seeded 10th in the tournament, stunned No. 2 Oklahoma State 4-0 to advance to the final four today.

The Hornets' championship hopes came to an end, however, with a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Georgia.

Delaware State advanced to the quarterfinals on the strength of a 3-1 victory over No. 7 Tennessee Martin in the opening round on Thursday.

In the Hornets' sweep of Oklahoma State, Shelbe Jarrett, Angelina Watts, Amber Van Segbrook and Grace Wilson each had winning performances.

Wilson led all riders with a total of 204.0 aboard “Mercedes.”

Watts (“Magnum”) and Jarrett (“Gallo”) each totaled 195.0, while Van Segbrook rode “Fred-TAMU” to a winning score of 191.0.

Wilson also posted the Hornets' lone win in the Georgia contest, with a score of 205.5 aboard “Cowboy,” to go undefeated (3-0) in the tournament.

Jarrett, Watts and Van Segbrook won two of their three tournament rides.
