Dayton, OH (Apr. 18, 2019) --- The Delaware State women's bowling team gave defending Intercollegiate Team Championship runner-up and top-seed McKendree (Ill.) all in could handle before falling four games to three in the 2019 ITC first round Baker format match-up today.
The 16th seeded Hornets won the first game 213-200, but the Bearkats bounced back to win game two 195-151.
DSU took game three 223-193 to regain the lead. McKendree responded with a strong performance, winning game four 258-179 to even the match at 2-2.
The Bearkats took a 3-2 lead in the contest with a 207-189 victory in the fifth game, but the Hornets staved off elimination with a 191-173 win in game six to force a decisive game seven.
McKendree clinched the win with a 183-158 victory in the seventh game to advance to a second round meeting against No. 8 Pikesville.
Delaware State will face Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival Maryland-Eastern Shore in an elimination contest on Friday.
Ninth-seeded MDES fell to Pikesville 4-3 in an opening round match on Thursday.
