Baltimore, Md. (Apr. 6, 2019) --- Delaware State managed just nine singles over 14 innings in a MEAC doubleheader loss to Morgan State today. The Hornets tallied four singles in a 4-0 loss in the opener and recorded five hits in another 4-0 defeat in the nightcap.
In game one, Morgan State's Stephanie Rundlett allowed just four hits, while striking out three and walking one in the shutout win.
She scattered singles by Jasmine Melgoza, Jade King, Brianna Baker and Tiffany Diao in the contest.
Morgan State scored the only run it needed on a single by Giselle Alvarez off Hornet starter Brianna Baker in the bottom of the first inning.
Morgan State added an insurance run in the fourth and two in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Brianna Baker (3-12) allowed all four Morgan State runs, although two were unearned. She gave up seven hits, while striking out one in six innings in the losing effort.
In the nightcap, Morgan State's Mikayla Barnard tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out five without a walk in seven innings.
The Bears scored two runs in the second inning and two in the fourth off Diao, the game two starter for the Hornets.
Melgoza had two of DSU's five hits in the nightcap to go three-for-six in the doubleheader.
Jaelyn Baker, Carissa Thorne and Sia Hornbuckle had the other game two hits off Barnard for the Hornets.
Delaware State (6-22; 3-5 MEAC) will try to avert a three-game sweep when the teams wrap up the series on Sunday. Game time is 12:0 p.m. in Baltimore.
