Arlington, Va. (Mar. 19, 2019) --- George Washington pounded out 16 hits against five Delaware State pitchers in an 18-1 win over the Hornets at Barcroft Park today.
The Colonials won for the sixth time in seven games to improve to 12-7 this season. DSU dropped its fifth in a row to fall to 5-12.
Nate Fassnacht and Greg Anderberg had two hits and three runs batted in each, while Noah Levin had three hits and two RBI to lead George Washington.
The Colonials scored single runs in the second and third innings off Delaware State starter Austin Warrington to open up a 2-0 lead.
GW added two more runs in the fourth on bases loaded walks to stretch its lead to four runs.
Delaware State got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth. Freshman Bandon Bly doubled to lead off the inning. Bly advanced to third on Adrian Hill's fly out to left center and scored on a ground out by John Weglarz.
George Washington answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to blow the game open. Fassnacht doubled in the last three runs of the inning to put the Colonials ahead 9-1.
A two-run single by Colin Brophy highlighted GW's three-sixth inning and Anderberg singled home two in the seventh to give the Colonials a 14-1 lead.
Delaware State's only other hit in the game was a two-out single by Jared Gillis in the fourth.
The Hornets return home this weekend for a three-game series against MEAC North rival Coppin State (Mar. 22-24). The Hornets and Eagles are scheduled to open the series with a single game on Friday at 3:00. The teams will also play single games on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) at Soldier Field.
