Dover, Del. (Feb. 28, 2019) – The Delaware State softball team returns to action at the Hampton University Pirate Invitational this weekend.
The Hornets (1-5) are scheduled to open the tournament with two games against host Hampton on Friday (Mar. 1) at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
DSU is also scheduled to face St. Peter's (N.J.) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and close out the tournament with contests against St. Peter's (9:00 a.m.) and North Carolina Central (11:00 a.m.) on Sunday.
The Hornets are trying to bounce back after being swept in four games at the Liberty Challenge in Lynchburg, Va., last weekend. DSU was outscored 47-7 in the tourney.
Preseason All-MEAC First Team second baseman Jasmine Melgoza (jr.) is off to a solid start for the Hornets with seven hits, including a double and triple, in 19 bats for a team-high .368 average.
Newcomer Carissa Thorne (fr.) is batting .333 (three-for-nine) with two runs scored in four games.
