Baltimore, Md. (Feb. 25) --- The Lady Hornets fall to the Coppin State Eagles 85-59. Lanayjha Ashe led DSU with 20 points and six assists.
Delaware State led 9-7 with 6:04 left in the first quarter, before Coppin State went on a 19-5 run to end the quarter on a 26-14 lead.
Coppin State increased their lead to 17 points midway through the second quarter.
DSU was able to chip away at the lead as they trailed 37-25 heading into halftime.
Delaware State continued to inch closer in the game. They started the second half on an 11-2 run, capped off by a three pointer from Yazmin Batch. That cut the deficit to just three at 39-36 with 7:15 left in the third quarter.
Coppin State dominated the rest of the quarter, outscoring Delaware State 23-10, E'mya Price drained a jumper just before time expired, giving the Eagles a commanding 62-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Hornets were unable to recover and were outscored by ten in the fourth.
Delaware State shot just 20-of-61 (32.8%) from the field, including a poor 8-of-25 (32.0%) from three-point range. They also shot 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the free throw line.
Yazmin Batch and Shonnyvelle Regalado combined for 21 points.
NaJai Pollard had nine points and ten rebounds. Fouled out after 26 minutes of play.
Coppin State made 25-of-51 (49.0%) on field goal attempts, including a scorching hot 11-of-17 (64.7) from beyond the three-point line. They also made 24-of-32 (75.0%) from the charity stripe.
Chance Graham led four Eagles in double figures with 26 points, she also had a game high 12 rebounds.
