HORNETS TO VISIT NC CENTRAL FOR SHORTENED SERIES

Dover, Del. (Feb. 22, 2019) --- The Delaware State team baseball team will try to get in two games at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division rival North Carolina Central this weekend. The Hornets and Eagles were scheduled to play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, however, the Friday contest has been called off due to inclement weather.

The teams are now set to play on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday at noon at the Durham Athletic Park.

The Hornets were 1-2 in their season opening series at The Citadel last weekend. DSU won the series opener 3-1 behind solid pitching from starter Garrett Lawson (jr.; Dover, Del.) and reliever Jeremy Carrow (fr.; Smyrna, Del.).

Lawson, who missed most of the 2018 season due to injury, allowed just one run on four hits, while striking out six without a walk in six innings in his return last week.

Carrow threw 3.1 scoreless innings and recorded a save in two appearances last weekend.

The Citadel won the next two games 5-0 and 9-3.

Outfielder Arthur Burrell (so.; Atlanta, Ga.) was the Hornets' top hitter in the opening series, collecting five hits a run batted in and stolen base in seven at bats (.714).

North Carolina Central is off to a 3-1 start this season, winning two out of three at home against Canisius and defeating visiting Norfolk State in a mid-week contest.
