The Game
Delaware State (3-14; 1-5 MEAC) wraps up three-game road swing with a visit to MEAC rival Howard. The Lady Hornets have dropped two straight and 10 of the last 11 games, including a 57-52 setback to Florida A&M in their most recent contest on Jan. 21. DSU's NaJai Pollard (sr.) led all players in the contest with 22 points and 13 rebounds, including six offensive. It marked her third straight double-double and ninth of the season. Pollard is tops in the MEAC and seventh among all NCAA Div. I players in scoring at 22.4 points per game. She's also second in the league and 25th in Div. I in rebounding at 10.9 per contest. In addition, Pollard is No. 3 in the MEAC with a .486 field goal percentage. Lanayjha Ashe (jr.) is second on the Lady Hornets in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Ashe is also among the league leaders in assists, three-point-and-free throw shooting. Delaware State is seeking its first road win of the season, The Lady Hornets are 0-10 away from home, including
0-3 in MEAC road contests this season.
Howard (10-7; 3-2 MEAC) is coming off a 72-63 road loss to South Carolina State in its most recent outing on Jan. 21. Krislyn Marsh led the Bison with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Ayonna Williams added 15 points. Howard was plagued by 14-of-35 free throw shooting in the game (40.0%). Marsh was 4-for-11 and Williams 3-of-7 at the stripe in the SC State loss. As a team, Howard is ninth in the MEAC with a .616 free throw percentage. On the other hand, Howard is No. 1 in the league in rebounding (43.1 pg) and rebound margin (+5.3 pg). Sarah Edmond is tops on the Bison and fifth in the MEAC in scoring at 16.2 points per game.
The Series (Howard leads 50-31)
This is the only scheduled contest between the teams this season. Howard has won the last two meetings to open up a 50-31 series lead. The Bison won the only 2017-18 meeting 78-70 in Washington, D.C., despite 27 points each by DSU's NaJai Pollard and Lanayjha Ashe. The point total marked a career-high for Ashe.
