THE GAME 
Delaware State (3-12; 0-2 MEAC) takes on North Carolina A&T in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest. The Hornets have dropped their last four games, including a 64-60 home setback vs. Coppin State in their most recent outing on Jan. 7. Delaware State led by 10 points in the first half, but settled for a 27-21 lead at the break. Coppin State outscored DSU 43-33 in the second half, highlighted by  54.5% shooting from the field (12-for-22). Delaware State was 12-for-33 from the floor (36/4%) in the final 20 minutes. Kevin Larkin was high scorer for the Hornets in the contest with 18 points. Larkin also led all players with 13 rebounds to notch his sixth double-double of the season, each in the last eight games. The Georgetown, Del., native leads the Hornets in scoring at 17.8 points per game and in rebounding at 9.5 per contest. Ameer Bennett added a season-high 11 points in the Coppin State contest, while Pinky Wiley also tallied 11 points and a game-high five assists. Jonathan Mitchell came off the bench to score 10 points and grab six rebounds in the Hornets’ last outing. Saleik Edwards is Delaware State’s second-leading scorer at 11.0 points per game. Wiley is also tied for fifth in the MEAC in assists (3.9 pg) and is tops in the league in steals at 2.3 per contest.     

 

North Carolina A&T (6-9; 1-0 MEAC) has won its last two games, including a 104-56 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian last Tuesday. Terry Harris was high scorer for the Aggies with 21 points, highlighted by five three-point field goals (5-10), and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds in the game.  The Aggies won their 2018-19 MEAC opener 80-77 in overtime at South Carolina State on Jan.5 . For the season, Qua Copeland is the team’s scoring leader at 12.1 points per game. Terry is second on the Aggies in scoring (10.9 ppg), while Ibrahim Sylla is the team’s top rebounder (5.1 pg) and shot blocker (14).

 

HORNETS vs. Aggies Series History 
This is the first of two scheduled contests between the Hornets and Aggies this season. North Carolina A&T swept three meetings with the Hornets last season. The Aggies took the 2017-18 regular season series, winning 76-66 at Delaware State and completed the sweep with a 54-51 victory in Greensboro, N.C. The teams also met in the opening round of the 2018 MEAC Tournament. North Carolina A&T also won that contest 62-61 in an overtime thriller at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. North Carolina A&T has won the last three meetings to open up a 60-35 lead in the series. The teams are also scheduled to meet on Feb. 9 at the Corbett Sports Complex on the NCA&T campus in Greensboro, N.C.
