Huntington, V.A. (Dec. 29) --- The Lady Hornets end their non-conference schedule with a loss to the VCU Rams 97-55. Delaware State drops to 2-9 on the season.
The Rams took control early in the game, jumping out to a 13-0 run. VCU made 58% of their shots during the first half, while the Lady Hornets shot a paltry 31% from the field. The Rams defense harassed the Lady Hornets offense all game long, and DSU trailed 45-26 at halftime.
The Hornets struggled in the second half as well shooting just 32% while VCU remained red hot. The Rams made 77% of their field goal attempts in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. They finished the second half shooting 62% from the field.
The two bright spots for DSU were NaJai Pollard and Lanayjha Ashe. Pollard totaled 24 points, six rebounds, and five blocks. While Ashe added 16 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
KEYS TO THE GAME
1. DSU was outscored 42-24 in points in the paint.
2. VCU scored 21 points off turnovers.
3. DSU shot just 1-of-16 on three-point attempts.

The Lady Hornets conference season starts on Jan. 5th (4:00 pm) with a matchup at Norfolk State (4:00 pm) and then they will have their conference home opener on Jan 7th vs. Coppin State (5:30 pm).
