Huntington, V.A. (Dec. 29) --- The Lady Hornets lose to Marshall 75-63, and they drop to 2-8 on the season.

Delaware State received early contributions from their veterans, Keke Barber, Lanayjha Ashe, and NaJai Pollard, as they scored the first 11 points for Delaware State. Freshman Shonnyvelle Regalado scored on a three-point play to up their total to 14, However they trailed Marshall 19-14 after one quarter of play.

Marshall gained control in the second quarter, using an 8-0 run to take a 27-17 lead. They outscored Delaware State 16-5 and led 39-22 heading into halftime.  The Lady Hornets never lead in the game.

Marshall continued to increase their lead, in the third quarter they led by as much as 25 points during the third quarter.

DSU made a huge dent into their deficit, as they only trailed 69-57 with 4:29 left in the game.  They were unable to get Marshall’s lead down to single-digits though.

Delaware State shot 21-of-60 (35.0) from the field, 8-of-23 from three-point range (34.8%), and 13-of-23 from the free throw line (56.5%).

NaJai Pollard led DSU with 30 points (including a season high three made three-pointers), 14 rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and one steal.

Keke Barber added 10 points (including 3 three-pointers), three rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block.

Lanayjha Ashe and Shonnyvelle Regalado totaled 18 points and seven assists.

Marshall shot 30-of-76 (39.5%) from the field, just 4-of-27 (14.8%) on three-point attempts, and 11-of-20 (55.0%) from the charity-stripe.

NaJai Pollard has NaJai Pollard has 1,591 points for her career, she is 42 points away from being the school’s fourth all-time scorer.

Pollard has 848 career rebounds and is 79 boards away from having the third-most rebounds in school history.
