Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 14, 2018) --- Delaware State won the first set, but was shutout the rest of the way in Coppin State’s 3-1 MEAC volleyball victory over the Hornets this afternoon. DSU won the first set 25-23, but the Eagles took the next three, 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23 to claim the match win.

Coppin State won for the second time in its last three outings to improve to 7-17 overall and 2-3 in the MEAC. The Hornets dropped their sixth straight match to fall to 2-20 and 0-5.

Miajavon Colemen led all players with 25 kills, while Asia Stennis and Lauryn Harrell added 12 each for the Eagles.  CSU setter Brianna Lang dished out 50 assists.

Devin Ruble (fr.) topped Delaware State with 10 kills, while Milexa Cardona (fr.) had a team-high 36 assists. DSU libero Nia Scott (fr.) tied for game-high honors with 13 digs.

Coppin State posted a .237 hitting percentage in the match, tallying 56 kills and 24 errors on 135 attempts. The has 43 kills and 27 errors on 142 attempts for a .113 attack percentage for the match.

There were nine ties in the first set, the last time at 23-23 after a Coppin State kill. Caroline Rakoski (fr.)  recorded a kill and Leimaluhia Taula (sr.) served up an ace to give DSU the set win.

Coppin State had 13 kills and just three errors to key its victory in set two.

In the fourth set, the Hornets trailed 20-16 before battling back to force a 23-23 tie. The Eagles scored the next two points to win the set and match.

Delaware State is back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 16) with a non-conference home match against La Salle. The contest is set for 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
