Washington, D.C. (Oct. 13, 2018) --- Quarterback Caylin Newton passed for 313 yards and five touchdowns to lead Howard to 55-13 victory over Delaware State in a MEAC contest at Greene Stadium this afternoon. Newton also rushed for a team-high 58 yards to lead the Bison, who improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC.

Howard wide receiver Jequez Ezzard had four receptions for 191 yards and three touchdowns, catching scoring passes of 78, 47 and 63 yards from Newton.

Delaware State rushed for 265 of its 379 total yards. Hornet freshman Michael Chris-Ike led all players with 86 yards rushing on 10 carries, with a long of 31 yards. Chris-Ike scored DSU’s lone touchdown on a one-yard run on fourth down with 3:25 left to play.

Brycen Alleyne totaled 80 yards rushing on 17 attempts for the Hornets.

DSU’s Jack McDaniels (so.) replaced starting quarterback Keenan Black (jr.) in the first quarter and played the rest of the way. McDaniels completed 14-of-25 passes for 114 yards.

Hornet placekicker Jose Romo-Martinez (r-fr.) hit two field goals for the second straight game. He accounted for DSU’s first six points on field goals of 21 and 40-yards. Romo-Martinez is four-for-five on field goal attempts in the last two contests.

Delaware State (0-6; 0-3 MEAC) is back in action next Saturday (Oct. 20) at South Carolina State (1:30 p.m.). The Hornets return home on Oct. 27 to face North Carolina Central in the annual homecoming g contest. Game time is 2:05 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
