Fairfield, Conn. (Sep. 9, 2018) --- Delaware State recorded a season-high in goals, but it was not enough in a 6-2 loss to Fairfield this afternoon. Sara Plowman scored two goals and four players tallied one each to lead the Staggs. Jade Jamison notched her team-leading third goal and Braxton Clark scored for the first time this season for the Hornets.

Fairfield (5-2) scored first when Liz Dumas fired a penalty kick past DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio less than eight minutes into the contest.

Plowman tallied her first goal of the match on a tap-in off a feed from Brooke Hernon in the 12th minute to give the Staggs a 2-0 lead. Fairfield opened up a 3-0 advantage when Dumas assisted on Plowman’s second goal in the 17th minute.

The Hornets (2-6) got on the board in the 25th minute when Jamison beat Fairfield keeper Aytana Mushajew to cut the Staggs’ lead to 3-1.

It took Fairfield just 17 seconds to answer the DSU goal. Alex Madden did the scoring honors for the Staggs off a pass from Gabby Diodati to give the hosts a 4-1 lead.

The Hornets trailed 6-1 when Clark closed out the scoring in the final minute, her first goal since Oct. 6, 2017 and fifth of her career.

Delaware State freshman goal keeper Franchesska Ramirez played the final 29 minutes of the match, allowing one goal and recording two saves.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday with a home match against Rider. Start is scheduled for 7 p.m. at DE Turf on Route 113 in Frederica.
