GEORGETOWN GETS BY DSU IN MID-WEEK CONTEST

Bethesda, Md. (Mar. 27, 2018) ---Delaware State scored the first run of the game, but allowed the next nine in a 10-5 loss to Georgetown at Shirley Povich Field today. Todd Henry and Miguel Rivera had three hits each for the Hornets, accounting for six of the team's seven in the game.

Three players had two hits each to key the Hoyas' 11-hit attack.


Delaware State opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Henry doubled to lead off the game, moved to third on sacrifice bunt by John Weglarz and crossed the plate on a ground out by Darnel Maisonet.


Georgetown (7-16) answered with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first to take the lead.


The Hoyas tacked on four runs in the third inning to open up a 7-1 lead. Richie O'Reilly and Kai Nelson had run-scoring doubles in the inning, while another run came in on a DSU error.

Georgetown added two runs in the fifth to lead 9-1.


The Hornets scored two runs on just one hit in the seventh to pull closer.  The first run scored on a Georgetown error on a ball hit by DSU's Alex VasquezArthur Burrell drove in the second run on a ground out.


Delaware State trailed 10-3 before scoring twice in the ninth inning. Henry singled in the first run of the inning and the second crossed the plate on a bases loaded walk to Maisonet.


Georgetown starter Jacob Grzebinski allowed three hits and one run, while striking out six without a walk in six innings, to earn the win.


Hornet starter Juan Sanchez was tagged with the loss.


Delaware State (2-21; 0-MEAC) returns to action with a three-game MEAC North series against Maryland-Eastern Shore this weekend. The series opener will be Friday (Mar. 30) at Delaware State. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Soldier Field. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 31) at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
