Dover, Del. (Feb 17) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets cameback from a 17-point deficit to defeat the Coppin State Eagles 70-66, Monday night at Memorial Hall. The Lady Hornets improve to 5-21 overall; 4-9 in the conference.
Delaware State trailed by as many as eight points (59-51) in the fourth quarter with 7:13 left in the game.
DSU went on a 7-0 run, capped off by a steal from Nyasia Carroll-Jackson that led to a fast break layup for Ryan Jones.
Delaware State and Coppin State matched each other point for point down the stretch, they were tied at 66 points apiece until, Lady Hornets forward Keke Barber hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the game.
Barber scored 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, it's her fourth double figure scoring game in the last five contests. She is averaging 14.8 points during that stretch.
Ryan Jones hit one of two free throws with nine seconds remaining, to put the game out of reach.
Delaware State used a full-court press defense to hold Coppin State to just nine points in the third quarter. The Lady Hornets forced six turnovers and scored nine points off of them during the period. The cut the deficit to just six at 52-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Hornets trailed 43-26 heading into halftime.
Delaware State made 26-of-71 field goals (36.6%) and 6-of 23 on three-point field goals (26.1%).
Ryan Jones led Delaware State with a career high 21 points. NaJai Pollard added 18 points and nine rebounds.
Coppin State shot 23-of-60 from the field (38.3%) and 5-of-17 from beyond-the-arc (29.4%).
Chance Graham led four Coppin State players in double figures with 21 points.
