MBB: HORNETS NO MATCH FOR NO. 16 HOOSIERS

Bloomington, Ind. (Dec. 19, 2016) --- OG Anunoby led four Indiana players in double-figures with a game-high 19 points in the Hoosiers' 103-56 victory over Delaware State at IU's Assembly Hall this evening. This was the Hornets' first contest against one of the most storied men's college basketball programs.  

Indiana, ranked 16th in each of the latest major national polls, won for the sixth time in the last seven games to improve to 9-2 this season.

The Hornets dropped their second straight to fall to 3-10. The contest was the second of six straight road games for DSU.

DeVaughn Mallory was high scorer for Delaware State with 14 points (7-13 FGs) and also tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds. Freshman Kobe Gantz came off the bench to tally 13 points, one shy of his collegiate best, on five-of-seven shooting from the field. Gantz was second on the Hornets with a career-high six rebounds in the contest.

Indiana shot a blistering 66.7% for the game, connecting on 42-of-63 field goal attempts, including 11-for-26 from three-point territory.

Delaware State made good on 21 of its 63 shots (33.3%) and six-of-22 from beyond arc.

The Hoosiers won the rebound battle 44-28. Anunoby led Indiana with nine boards.   

The Hornets only trailed 22-17 after a follow-up basket by Gantz at the 12:15 mark of the first half.

Indiana responded by scoring 10 of the next 11 points, and opened up a 32-18 lead after a three-pointer by Curtis Jones with 10:03 left in the half.

After Delaware State pulled to within 36-26 on a four-point play by Gantz, the Hoosiers went on another spurt, outscoring the Hornets 14-2 over the next four minutes to open up a 22-point lead.

Anunoby capped off the rally with a steal and lay-up to give the Hoosiers a 50-28 lead with 2:37 to go before halftime.

Indiana held a 54-30 lead at the break.

The Hornets were outscored 24-6 to start the second half, and fell behind 78-36 on two free throws by Juwan Morgan

The Hoosiers led by 50 points on two occasions in the seconds half.

Delaware State will remain in Big 10 country for their next contest on Thursday at Iowa (Dec. 22). Game time is 9:06 p.m. ET in Iowa City, IA.

… Mallory has combined for 48 points on 23-of-39 shooting (.590) and 31 rebounds in the last three games.  

…Joe Lewis came off the bench to score a season-high seven points for the Hornets.

… DSU's Kavon Waller had two three-pointers in the contest, marking the 12th time in 13 games that he's nailed a three-ball and his ninth game with at least two.

… Delaware State's top three scorers this season (Waller, Devin Morgan and DeAndre Haywood) totaled just 15 points on four-of-24 shooting from the field. The trio entered the contest with a combined average of more than 36 points per game.
