Denton, Tex. (Dec. 8, 2016) --- Delaware State shot a season-low 22.6% from the field en route to a 73-40 loss to North Texas at NTU’s Super Pit this evening.  The contest was DSU’s eighth consecutive road game.

The Hornets were 12-for-53 from the field, including 6-of-22 from three-point territory (27.3%) in suffering their third straight loss to fall to 2-8 this season.

North Texas won for the fourth time in five games to improve to 5-4.

Jeremy Combs led three North Texas players in double-figures with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

A.J. Lawson came off the bench to add 13, while Allante Holston tallied 12 for the Mean Green. NTU’s Ricky Brice, Jr. had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Mrdjan Gasevic was the only Delaware State player to score in double figure with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Gasevic has scored 32 points in his last four games after tallying 11 points in his first five appearances this season. He also tied for the team lead with five rebounds this evening.

Devin Morgan and Artem Tavakalyan contributed nine points each for the Hornets.

Delaware State shot just 24% in the first half (6-25), but only trailed 32-21 at the break.

After DSU’s DeVaughn Mallory hit a jumper for the first points of the second half, North Texas answered with a 12-0 run to blow the game open. Shane Temara capped off the run with a basket to give the Mean Green a 44-23 lead with 13:30 left to play.

North Texas led by as many as 35 points in the second half.

The Hornets fly home on Friday and are right back on action on Saturday to take on Keystone College (Pa.). Game time is 4 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
