Cincinnati, OH (Dec. 1, 2016) --- Delaware State junior guard Mikah Aldridge scored a game-high 20 points in her return from a three-game injury absence, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Lady Hornets were throttled by Xavier (OH) 86-53 at the Cintas Center this evening. The contest wrapped up a string of six straight road games for DSU.
Marquia Turner and Imani Partlow led Xavier with 18 points each, while Raeshaun Gaffney added 11 points for the Musketeers.
Aldridge was 7-for-22 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free throw line to record her season-high point total. She scored 13 points in the second half.
Aaliyah Davis scored a season-high 13 points, while NaJai Pollard also tallied 13 for the Lady Hornets.
Once again, DSU was plagued by poor shooting in the early going.
The Lady Hornets were just 2-for-15 from the field in the first quarter (13.3%), which ended with Xavier ahead 19-7.
Delaware State's shooting improved slightly in the second quarter (4-16), but the Musketeers stretched their lead to 42-19 at the break.
Xavier shot 56% in the second half to outscore the Lady Hornets 44-34 after intermission.
The Musketeers outrebounded Delaware State 49-28. Partlow led all players with 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Xavier outscored DSU 22-9 on second chance points.
On the plus side for the Lady Hornets was good ball security. Delaware State committed a season-low eight turnovers, its lowest total since recording seven in a 67-57 loss to Long Island on Dec. 11, 2010.
Delaware State will be idle for the next nine days. The Lady Hornets will return to action on Dec. 11 at home for just the second time this season against NJIT. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
