NO. 3 PITTSBURGH TOO MUCH FOR HORNETS

Pittsburgh, Pa. (Dec. 8, 2010) - Pittsburgh, the nation's No. 3 team, used its considerable size advantage to post a 70-42 men's basketball win over Delaware State at the Peterson Events Center this evening.

The Panthers improved to 10-0 on the season, while the Hornets had a two-game winning streak snapped in falling to 4-4.

Dante Taylor came off the bench to lead Pitt with 14 points and 10 rebounds, each a game high. Taylor was 6-for-7 from the field and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Reserve J.J. Moore added 10 point for the Panthers.

"Pittsburgh is certainly as good as its No. 3 ranking," said Delaware State head coach Greg Jackson, who fell to 0-2 against the Panthers. "They have all the tools to be a serious contender in the Big East and the NCAA Tournament."

Pitt was 28-for-55 from the field (50.9%), while forcing the Hornets into 32.6% shooting (14-for-43).

The Hornets hit three of their first four shots, and tied the game at 7-7 on a short jumper by Oliver with   15:53 left in the first half.

Pitt responded with a 13-0 run, and opened up a 20-7 lead on a free throw by Gary McGhee with 7:52 left in the half.

Delaware State missed each of its nine shots and committed two turnovers during the Pittsburgh spurt.

The Panthers led 23-10 before Washington and Chad Wilson hit back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Hornets to within 23-16.

Pittsburgh outscored the Hornets 11-3 in the final 3:38 of the first half to lead 34-19 lead at the break.

The Panthers scored the first five points of the second half, and opened up a 39-19 lead on a three-pointer by Gilbert Brown with 18:40 left to play.
