Greensboro, N.C. (May 8, 2010) --- Delaware State's men had three first-place finishes at the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships today.
The Hornets were sixth overall with a total of 69 points. Norfolk State claimed its fifth consecutive MEAC outdoor title with 150.5 points.
Delaware State junior Donte Holmes captured his third consecutive outdoor championship in the 800-meter run. He topped the field with a time of 1:51.52. The Hyattsville, Md., native has won the MEAC 800-meter indoor and outdoor championships in each of his three years at Delaware State.
Holmes also anchored the Hornets' first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. He teamed up with Ryan Carter, Tyquan Brown and Kelli Thibou to post a winning time of 3:08.78. DSU has won the MEAC outdoor 1600-meter relay in each of the last two years.
Delaware State's John Sutton is the MEAC champion in the javelin throw. Sutton won his first outdoor title with a top throw of 54.44 meters, nearly six meters better than second place Leighton Brown of South Carolina State (48.65m).
DSU's Isaiah Brisco earned All-MEAC recognition after finishing third in the decathlon with 5689 points. Brisco was first in the decathlon javelin, and second in the 1500-meter run, 400-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles.
