TEMPLE TOO MUCH FOR HORNETS

Ambler, Pa. (Mar. 10, 2010) --- Temple scored nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 14-6 win over Delaware State in college baseball this afternoon.

The Owls won for the first time in 11 games, while the Hornets fell to 3-7.

Tony Jusino led Temple's attack with three hits and four runs batted in, while Jabair Khan had two hits and two RBI for the Owls.

Delaware State had seven hits, including home runs by Abe Eubank and Ryan Haas.

The Owls opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double by Rafael Cordero. Temple opened up a 5-0 lead when Byron McKoy homered to lead off the second.

The Hornets got two back in the third when Keith Hernandez doubled with one and scored in front of Abe Eubank's home run.

Temple answered with four runs in the bottom of the third to open up a 9-2 lead.

Delaware State scored a run in the fifth on a Hernandez sacrifice fly to cut Temple's lead to 9-3.

The Hornets will host Fairfield in the home opener on Saturday (Mar. 13). The doubleheader begins at 12:00 p.m. at Soldier Field.  

The Hornets pulled to within 10-4 on a solo homer by Haas in the sixth. The Owls were ahead 11-4 when Eubank homered to lead off the DSU eighth.

Temple added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
