HORNETS TO BEGIN MEAC TOURNAMENT PLAY ON MARCH 10

Dover, Del. (Mar. 5, 2010) --- The Delaware State men's basketball team will play its MEAC Tournament opener next Wednesday evening in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The second-seeded Hornets will take on the winner of the No. 7 Bethune-Cookman/No. 10 Florida A&M first round game in a quarterfinal contest on March 10 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Tip-off is 9:30 p.m.

Delaware State swept four meetings against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M this regular season. The Hornets defeated the Wildcats 77-60 in Daytona Beach, Fla., and 67-50 at home. DSU topped the Rattlers 64-57 at Florida A&M, and completed the sweep with a 66-63 victory in Dover.

If the Hornets win the quarterfinal contest, they'll compete in the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 12 at 8:00 p.m.

Delaware State is 20-38 all-time in the MEAC Tournament. The Hornets claimed their only tournament championship in 2005, and reached the championship game in each of the next two years. DSU also competed in the tournament final in 1991 and '93.

The Hornets have reached the MEAC Tournament semifinals six times in their nine tournament appearances since Greg Jackson became head coach in 2000.

Regular season champ Morgan State is the No. 1 seed for the third straight year. The Bears will be vying for their second straight MEAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth.

This year's MEAC men's title game is set for March 13 at 2:00 p.m., and will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
