Dover, Del. (Mar. 1, 2010) --- The Delaware State bowling team lost just one of 10 matches, but had to settle for a third place finish at the Capital Classic at Brunswick Doverama last weekend.
The Hornets (80-34 overall) were 5-0 in regular team games and 4-1 in Baker matches during the competition.
In Saturday's regular games, DSU defeated North Carolina A&T (1009-698), Hampton (909-798), Howard (998-759), St. Peter's (934-860) and Adelphi (980-846).
The Hornets upended Hampton (734-711), North Carolina A&T (793-608) and St. Peter's (655-620) in Baker competition on Sunday to advance to the semifinals.
Delaware State's tournament championship hopes were dashed by Adelphi, 4-3, in the semifinals. The Hornets won the third place match against North Carolina A&T, 4-1.
In the individual results, DSU bowlers had four of the top five scorers. Adriana Jaime topped all competitors with a total pinfall of 1014 (202.8 avg.). She had four 200-plus games, with a high of 222. Brooke Peterson was just behind Jaime with a 1012 total pinfall (202.4). She also rolled four 200-plus games, including a high of 233.
Delaware State's Kalyn Washburn was third with a 990 total pinfall (198.0), while Angela Reynolds was fifth at 955 (191.0).
